On Monday night 25 November 2013 in New York City at the 41st awards ceremony, Sean WON the International Emmy for Best Actor, for his performance as Tracy/Simon in The Accused. Production Update: 'Enemy of Man' Gets Funding! Sean Bean stars in 'Macbeth' adaption

It's been pretty quiet this year as far as major releases with Sean Bean, but never fear he is hard at work on various productions and 2014 is shaping up to be a very busy & active release year!
As was last referred to on this site here, the trailer for Enemy of Man was shot in hopes of attracting the needed funding to complete the project. I'm very glad to report great news from the in progress 2013 Toronto International Film Festival: this Macbeth adaption that's been on Sean's CV as "in development" for a very long time has finally received funding to start filming in January 2014! Sean will star as Macbeth. Kaleidoscope Film Distribution struck a deal to distribute the film worldwide. The film was conceived of and is being adapted from Shakespeare by Vincent Regan (actor 300, Strike Back, Mistresses).
Other cast listed so far are: Charles Dance (Game of Thrones, Gosford Park) as Duncan; Rupert Grint (Harry Potter films) as Rosse; Jason Flemyng (X-Men First Class, Primeval) as Macduff; James D'Arcy (rumoured) (Cloud Atlas, Master & Command: Far Side) as Banquo; Charlotte Gainsbourg (rumoured) (The Science of Sleep, Melancholia, Jane Eyre) as Lady Macbeth (this part was originally tapped for Tilda Swinton)

Earlier this year some great pictures from the trailer shoot were posted by Roopesh Parekh. Here is the link to the original FB status: https://www.facebook.com/roopesh.parekh/posts/10200092460167296. Link appears to be inactive so here's the stills:

The tagline so far: A war hero and the lure of ambition and decent into hell.

This looks FANTASTIC!!! Can't wait to see the finished film!!

Filming Begins for 'Wicked Blood': Sean Bean plays Uncle Frank Stinson!

Last week in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA shooting began for Wicked Blood, a film slated for 2013 release per info so far. Directed by Mark Young. Here's the synopsis:
Hannah Lee (Abigail Breslin) is a bright teen girl trapped in the dark Southern underworld of violence and guns, drugs and vicious biker gangs. Neglected by her angry sister Amber (Alexa Vega), her only refuge is her troubled uncle Donny, who is a drug addict. Both live in fear of “Uncle Frank” Stinson (Sean Bean), who runs the illegal family business with an iron fist, aided by his psychotic younger brother Bobby. But when Amber falls in love with family rival Wild Bill (James Purefoy), Hannah realizes there is no escape from the ruthless Stinsons, and cleverly schemes to pit one pawn against another in a cunning game of revenge.
LOVE that Sean is reunited working with James Purefoy! We last saw them on film together in Sharpe's Sword:

There's been a flurry of update tweets from the set by some cast and here's the photo ones!
Sam Medina (https://twitter.com/TeamSamMedina) was very kind to post this great picture to Twitter:

Sean Bean Completes Shooting of Trailer for Macbeth Adaption Film Enemy of Man

Remember when our Sean played Macbeth live on stage?

It was fabulous! And for years after there was talk of & proposals for him to star in a film version.

I'm so pleased to hear that there is finally some concrete news!
Word on this Monday past was that Sean finished shooting a trailer for film hopeful Enemy of Man (also titled Come Like Shadows at one point), a Shakespeare's Macbeth adaption by Vincent Regan, Jennifer Lee Carell, Nick Saunders and Pete Travis, with Sean once again playing Macbeth.

Other cast listed so far are: James D'Arcy (Cloud Atlas, Master & Command: Far Side, Nicolas Nickleby) as Banquo; Rupert Grint (Harry Potter films) as Rosse; Stephen Graham (Boardwalk Empire, This Is England, Pirates of the Caribbean) as Macduff; Charlotte Gainsbourg (The Science of Sleep, Melancholia, Jane Eyre) as Lady Macbeth (this part was originally tapped for Tilda Swinton); Neil Maskell, and Sam Spruell.

Here is the Enemy of Man IMDb page: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0338258/
Updates on that page are sparse but now that I know something definite is in motion, I have added it to my Watchlist. Details are available on mobile & device apps. It has 2013 attached but that will likely change, hopefully next year!
The tagline so far: A war hero and the lure of ambition and decent into hell.

On the SBF Facebook page I posted 4 photo updates of Sean in armour that were kindly uploaded by Roopesh Parekh.
Here is the link to the original FB status: https://www.facebook.com/roopesh.parekh/posts/10200092460167296

Hope more production gets underway soon, can't wait to see the finished film!!!

Sean Bean Accepts Role in Wachowskis' Jupiter Ascending film : Latest Casting News

This is exciting! Recently it was announced that Sean has signed on for Jupiter Ascending, the new major film project from The Wachowski's (Matrix films, V For Vendetta, Speed Racer, Cloud Atlas). I have to admit I was quite surprised! I've seen most of their films, really liked The Matrix, but their style of writing & filming isn't something that I thought would fit Sean, so I applaud both him & them for expanding their universes!

Sean Bean in Cleanskin
Sean's casting has been quoted in most of the major entertainment publications & websites. I held off writing this article, however, to see what else would surface, and yesterday's bit of news finally prompted me: Sean's Cleanskin co-star Tuppence Middleton, who played Kate in that film & recently seen in BBC's Spies of Warsaw, has also been cast! So that's 2 of Sean's former co-stars, the other being Eddie Redmayne who starred with Sean in Black Death. Also of note among the announced cast so far is Mila Kunis, who will play Jupiter, a last hope for humans in a universe dominated by other life forms. I last saw her as the Russian ballet dancer in Black Swan. Rounding out the list is popular actor Channing Tatum (G.I. Joe films, Magic Mike) as Django Wise, and Douglas Booth (Pillars of the Earth, Great Expectations).

Tuppence Middleton in Cleanskin

Here's the current working description of the film:
In a universe where humans are near the bottom of the evolutionary ladder, a young destitute human woman is targeted for assassination by the Queen of the Universe because her very existence threatens to end the Queen's reign.
Sean's character in Jupiter Ascending is a man named Stinger, and he is described as being a Stars Wars-esque "Han Solo" type, which I presume means something like a smartass, charming, big hearted rouge who fights for right & protects the ones he loves. Unfortunately, he is not the leading man.
I will definitely be keeping an eye on this film's progression, stay tuned!

Production Update: Legends: Sean Bean stars in 2013 TV spy drama pilot

Delighted to see some more news about Fox 21's Legends, an upcoming 60 min. TV pilot for TNT. A few days ago Iceman Fitness head man Ricky Parcell kindly posted publicly a couple photos of himself & Sean to Facebook, with his captions (status links please click through to see pictures):

Sean's involvement is underway! Legends is based on the novel of the same name by Robert Littell, the subtitle is: A Novel of Dissimulation. In "spy speak," the word "legend" means an agent's fake identity & memories. The story is about deep-cover CIA operative Martin Odum (Sean Bean), who has the useful ability to make himself appear completely different for each job. But he also has amnesia bouts... and a stranger shakes his world with a thought... Is Martin really who he thinks he is? Or is he himself a legend?

Newly cast is Ali Larter (Heroes TV series, Resident Evil films) as Crystal Quest, another operative that has a history with Martin Odum. She initially doesn't like him coming back into the fold. Also appearing on the main cast list so far is Rob Mayes (John Dies At The End film, Jane By Design TV series) as Troy and Steve Harris (Awake TV series, The Practice TV series) as CIA Task Force director Yates. (Side note: I was a big fan of Awake.)
20/01/2013 UPDATE to cast: Lux Haney-Jardine (Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter film) is son Aiden Odum; Utkarsh Ambudkar (The Mindy Project TV series) is Bobby Mehta; Amber Valletta (Revenge TV series, Transporter 2 film) is ex-wife Jardine Odum; Brendan McCarthy (Justified, True Blood TV series) is Leroy Streeter; Tina Majorino (Veronica Mars, Grey's Anatomy TV series) is Maggie Poole.
27/01/2013 UPDATE: Tracy Brennan, who is as yet uncredited with a role, tweeted a photo of her & Sean outside the set from her Instagram account: http://instagram.com/p/U5U2XWAtt0/
Jesse Wang is also newly added to cast as Tsou Xing, he posted a photo of himself & Sean on Facebook.
And another near set photo with Sean from Jennifer Kim, who is apparently playing Minh, on Instagram: http://instagram.com/p/UxtNd-PEsh/
30/01/2013 Director of Photography Sidney Sidell tweeted this fantastic picture of Sean on set! (Click thru): https://twitter.com/SidneySidell/status/294990739602022401/photo/1/large

It will be interesting to see how the TV series is planned if it is picked up. There are a few options I can imagine. One is that a different male actor for Odum could be employed for each episode, unhappy for us Sean fans but cost effective for keeping a credible adaption. Makeup these days is good, and so is Sean's ability to transform himself, but neither may suffice for what I think will be demanded. Another option I can think of is digital enhancement of Sean for Odum's shifting appearance. How exciting would that be! Using such high tech would depend on the budget. Please note I'm merely speculating here and I'll be eagerly watching for details from the production.

Legends is co-executive produced by Homeland & 24's Howard Gordon, developed for Fox 21 by Howard Gordon, Jeffrey Nachmanoff and Mark Bomback.
TNT is a mark of Turner Network Television.

Sean Bean - Year in Review 2012

It was a very diverse & interesting results year for Sean! Some truly great performance moments by him, my faves are ticked by asterisks:

Sean Bean & Ashley Judd in Missing
*Missing. 10 episode global TV series about 2 ex-CIA parents looking for their kidnapped son. Sean was the father, Paul Winstone. The show had action & a few crazy twists mixed with flashbacks of the Winstone family story, but overall I really enjoyed it and regret it wasn’t renewed. Also starred Ashley Judd, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Keith Carradine.

Cleanskin
*Cleanskin. Indie feature film. Sean played Ewan Keane, a former British army now MI6 agent given the task of pursuing and eliminating a British-born suicide bomber and the terrorist cell. I thought this movie was awesome, packed in plenty of action & intrigue against an intelligent balanced plot. Definitely worth seeing! Also starred Charlotte Rampling, Abhin Galeya, Tom Burke.

Mirror, Mirror
Mirror, Mirror. Feature film. Another take on the Snow White fairy tale (evil queen, prince, princess, peasants). This was one of my “entertainment sacrifices,” I only saw this flick for Sean, who played Snow’s father, the King. However, it was better than I expected, I liked Snow (Lily Collins), the ending, and all the dwarfs. Also starred Julia Roberts, Armie Hammer, Nathan Lane.

Accused
*Accused. The acclaimed BBC TV series from Jimmy McGovern finally got Sean in its episode Tracie’s Story, as poetry teacher & transvestite Simon Gaskell / Tracie Tremarco. In the story Tracie meets Tony (Stephen Graham) after being harassed & falls in love with him; Tony is interested in Tracie, not Simon, and has another problem as well- he’s married. This performance was one of Sean’s most challenging & brilliant yet, I was absolutely thrilled with it! Great photography, too.

Bean, Monaghan, Cromwell, Rhames, Slater in Soldiers of Fortune
Soldiers of Fortune. Ltd release feature film. Sean played Roman St. John / Dimidov, a wealthy business owner who is offered, along with other wealthy men, the chance to be a part of an island revolution in return for his monetary investment. But the mission gets complicated as each man reveals his own agenda. I enjoyed this movie, lots of faves, the storyline was good & had plenty of action. Also starred Christian Slater, Ving Rhames, Dominic Monaghan, James Cromwell, Colm Meaney.

Adelaide Clemens & Sean Bean in Silent Hill: Revelation
Silent Hill: Revelation. 3D feature film. I really liked the 1st Silent Hill movie, looked forward to seeing this one, where Sean is now Harry Mason, changed name & on the run with his likewise renamed & now teenaged daughter Heather (Adelaide Clemens) who continues to have nightmarish flashes & dreams from her ordeal & possible future; events conspire & inevitably they get pulled back into the town’s terrifying alternate reality. Also starred Kit Harington, Carrie-Anne Moss.

Always in demand, Sean has more new projects in the pipe for us to enjoy, I look forward to a great 2013! Happy New Year!

Sean Bean Supports The 'Living Paintings' Charity Project.

Sean Bean has lent his voice and support to a project by Kingsclere charity Living Paintings. The Lord of the Rings actor recorded the story of Beowulf for Living Paintings – a story which is included in the charity’s latest educational book currently in production, The Anglo Saxons.

The Touch to See book contains special versions of pictures with raised surfaces that come to life when fingers feel them. The audio descriptions direct the fingers, telling the stories of the pictures and describing their features, combining the senses of touch and hearing.

He said: “I really enjoyed working with Living Paintings and, as such a small charity providing a completely unique service, I hope that my support can help to make a difference by raising awareness so that even more visually-impaired people can learn about and join their free postal library.”

Soldiers of Fortune (2012) Review: What Money Buys

After a lengthy delay Soldiers of Fortune (2012) finally got a cinema release complete with a premiere in Moscow, several press outlets posted pictures from it. The DVD was in my Redbox for 2 months, which is pretty good rental success. I saw it in the theatre and it was as much fun for me to watch as it looked like it was to film! Yes it's a so-called "B-movie", but from a purely entertainment stance, just for the cast alone (a lot of my faves), it's certainly better than some of the less flattering reviews that got hung on it. I thought the pace & action was as good as any movie in its class. Loved the locations, I even liked the movie title pun & the graphics! The plot is definitely coherent, the main character is down-on-luck former US Army Capt. Craig McCenzie (Christian Slater). He gets an offer to train five rich guys (Sean is metals magnate Roman St. John aka Dimidov) who have agreed to fund a former Soviet island revolution in exchange for a piece of the action.

McCenzie has a personal stake in this too, the usurper Colonel's head of security Mason (Colm Meaney) is the CIA man who got him dishonourably discharged after McCenzie disobeyed his orders in Afghanistan & saved his friend instead. Said friend Capt. Reed also comes along, without this job he will lose his family's house. As the story progresses, things don't go as planned, and in the course of events each man reveals his true reason for putting up the money & wanting to do this mission. There is an exciting finish!

Pictured L to R: Sean Bean, Dominic Monaghan, James Cromwell, Ving Rhames, Christian Slater
If the terrain looks familiar to fans of Sharpe, it should! In my opinion Sean's character had the best plot twist and also got the best line in the movie: "He's been shot at with his own merchandise and he hasn't been paid for it!"

Remembrance Day: Sean Bean Reads Wilfred Owen Part 2 (VIDEO)

 The Last Laugh

Wilfred Owen
'Oh! Jesus Christ! I'm hit,' he said; and died.
Whether he vainly cursed or prayed indeed,
The Bullets chirped-In vain, vain, vain!
Machine-guns chuckled,-Tut-tut! Tut-tut!
And the Big Gun guffawed.

Another sighed,-'O Mother, -Mother, - Dad!'
Then smiled at nothing, childlike, being dead.
And the lofty Shrapnel-cloud
Leisurely gestured,-Fool!
And the splinters spat, and tittered.

'My Love!' one moaned. Love-languid seemed his mood,
Till slowly lowered, his whole faced kissed the mud.
And the Bayonets' long teeth grinned;
Rabbles of Shells hooted and groaned;
And the Gas hissed.
